SANTA CLARA, CA - NOV 8, 2017
Santa Clara freshman Julie Doyle tore her left anterior cruciate ligament. Doyle underwent surgery on November 7, 2017. She suffered the knee injury when turning for a ball in the match against San Francisco. Doyle missed helping her teammates during the 2017 NCAA Tournament and the call-up to compete for a roster spot for the U.S. 2018 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup Team; the injury was a devastating setback. The Broncos freshman ended the season with eight goals and three assists despite missing the final five and a half games. If not for her season being cut short, Doyle may have scored double-figure goals in her freshman season.
Julie Doyle returns to the Broncos as a Sophomore working hard to make it back to the pitch. Sean Shahmirzadi, Julie's SCU trainer, puts extra effort into helping her with the comeback. During her Sophomore campaign, Doyle misses the season's first five games. Although Doyle has a successful Sophomore season, she receives half as many starts and half as many minutes. She permanently returns to the starting lineup her Junior season, taking on a different role for the team, shifting from forward to midfield-winger; Doyle scores five goals and adds six assists. Named Team Co-Captain her senior year, Doyle was an essential member of the leadership team that led the Broncos to the 2020 D1 NCAA National Championship!
