JULIE DOYLE SCU EXTENDED HIGHLIGHTS
FRESHMAN 2017: Julie Doyle appeared in 18 games and made 17 starts. Doyle started nine games as a midfielder and had eight starts as a forward. On October 27th against San Francisco, Doyle went down with a season-ending ACL injury. Doyle missed the final five and a half games of the season, finishing third on the team with eight goals and three assists for 19 points. Doyle scored two game-winners, scored the game-winner vs. San Jose State in collegiate debut, scored at No. 7 UCLA, scored a goal at Seattle, had an assist at Cal Poly, scored vs. Loyola Marymount, scored a goal at Portland, scored the game-winner and had an assist at Gonzaga, picked up an assist at Saint Mary’s, scored two goals at Pacific.
SOPHOMORE 2018: Julie Doyle missed the first 5 games of the season coming back from her ACL injury, appeared in 17 games and made 7 starts, scored three goals and added one assist, scored a goal vs. Texas Christian University, had an assist vs. Cal Poly, scored the game-winner vs. St. Mary’s and scored a goal vs. Pacific.
JUNIOR 2019: Second Team All-WCC. Doyle played in all 23 games with 20 starts, scored five goals and added six assists, had an assist vs. Texas A&M, had an assist vs. UCLA, had an assist vs. Arizona, had an assist at Pacific, scored one goal and added an assist vs. Pepperdine scored the game-winner and added an assist at Saint Mary’s, scored the game-winner vs. California in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, scored the game-winner vs. Oklahoma St. in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
SENIOR 2020: First Team All-West Region, First Team All-WCC, NCAA College Cup ALL-Tournament Team, Team Co-Captain, appeared in all 12 matches and 11 starts, tied for second on the team with four assists and added one goal, had an assist against Saint Mary’s (3/6/21), scored the game-winner at No. 13 BYU (3/13/21), had an assist at No. 24 Pepperdine (3/23/21), had assists on both goals vs. Arkansas (5/5/21) in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, converted the first penalty kick in the National Championship against No.1 Florida State.

2020 NCAA DIVISION 1 WOMEN’S SOCCER NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Head coach Jerry Smith completed his 34th season at the helm of the Santa Clara women's soccer program in 2020. Although he is most known for the development of his players and teams, Smith also produces success and is the winningest women's soccer coach in Santa Clara history, having compiled a record of 508-162-64 (.736) -- ranked top-5 in NCAA Division I history -- establishing a standard of excellence few can match. With Santa Clara's 2-1 win at BYU on March 13, 2021, Smith became just the third women's soccer coach with 500 Division I wins. Santa Clara capped it's magical season with a trip to the College Cup that saw wins over No. 2 North Carolina and No. 1 Florida State to capture the program's second national title.

Santa Clara is the 2020 College Cup Champions after defeating Florida State 4-1 on penalty kicks for the national title. This is the program's second championship and first since 2001. Julie Doyle gave the Broncos a 1-0 edge in the shootout, the first opening-round penalty attempt conceded by FSU during the tournament. The Seminoles were chasing the rest of the way as Clara Robbins and Emily Madril hit near-identical spots on the right post as Sally Menti doubled the lead for Santa Clara. Kelsey Turnbow made it 3-0. Izzy D'Aquila who dealt the final blow with a blast into the lower right corner for the title. Santa Clara, playing in its third national title game and first since 2002, converted all four of its penalty kicks. Julie Doyle named to the 2020 NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team.
CARY, N.C. - MAY 5, 2021
An hour and a half weather delay to the start of the match couldn't slow down Santa Clara women's soccer in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. The scoring got started in the 28th minute. Julie Doyle danced around a defender in the box before sliding with a difficult shot on goal, Warner got a hand on but it deflected to the head of D'Aquila who finished the chance. An insurance goal came in the 73rd on the second in as many games from Smith. Again, Julie Doyle sent a far post cross after beating her defender 1v1, this time to Smith who volleyed the ball out of the air and into the top of the net. On the other side, Arkansas managed six shots and three on target but was denied by Marlee Nicolos saves to keep the clean sheet.
PROVO, UT - MAR 13, 2021
No. 23 Santa Clara women's soccer went into Provo on Saturday and upset No. 13 BYU 2-1. On Tuesday, Santa Clara women's soccer senior Julie Doyle was named the West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The No. 23 Broncos went to Provo and beat No.13 BYU 2-1. The match-winner came in the 88th minute off the foot of Julie Doyle, who made a perfectly timed run between two defenders. Doyle met up with an excellent through ball sent by Skylar Smith, then made a two-touch dribble before placing one, far post, side net past the BYU keeper (Cassidy Smith) for the winning goal! The game gave head coach Jerry Smith his 500th career win and put the Broncos in a great position for a possible 1st place Conference finish and automatic bid for the 2020 NCAA Tournament.
SANTA CLARA, CA - NOV 16, 2019
No. 20 Santa Clara women's soccer moved on to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with an exciting 1-0 overtime win over Cal Saturday afternoon at Stevens Stadium. The Broncos (14-5-2) and Bears (13-5-3) were even in the first half but Santa Clara took over in the second, outshooting Cal 12-1 and 7-0 in shots on frame but were denied every time until Julie Doyle blasted a shot into the back of the net in the 91st minute. The goal was setup by a nice play from Audrey Hegardt who was able to poke a ball in traffic right to Doyle. Julie Doyle then took some touches to get just outside the box before rifling a shot into the upper-right corner of the goal for the game-winner.
SANTA CLARA, CA - OCT 23, 2019
Despite trailing by three goals with less than 30 minutes to go, Santa Clara women's soccer completed an unbelievable comeback to top Pepperdine 4-3 Wednesday night. The comeback began right after the Waves had scored their third of the night. Kelcie Hedge cleaned up a saved shot to get the Broncos on the board in the 62nd. Then, in the 64th, Turnbow hit a long shot from outside the box that went high and over the keeper to make it a 3-2. In the 70th, the Broncos drew even at 3-all on a penalty kick. Julie Doyle took the PK chance that she finished inside the right post. The comeback was completed in the 76th minute, a shot by Izzy D'Aquila in the box, hit her shot off the crossbar and down into the net to make it 4-3 win.
SANTA CLARA, CA - SEP 05, 2019
Santa Clara women's soccer knocked off the second-ranked team in the country by handling No. 2 UCLA in a 2-0 win. The Broncos were on the front foot for much of Thursday night, collecting thirteen shots to eight for the Bruins (4-1) while also putting five on goal and forcing UCLA to register an own goal for the first tally of the match. Julie Doyle took the set piece and found the head of Machaela George, went off the post hit a UCLA defender in the back and went into the net. Santa Clara added an insurance goal in the 56th on some pretty passing to make it 2-0. Julie Doyle took the ball on the left side and passed into the box to D'Aquila who touched a ball to Skylar Smith running on the ball into the box and her one-timer beat the keeper.
SANTA CLARA, CA - SEP 16, 2018
Julie Doyle drew a penalty kick in the 66th minute after she was taken down in the box by Stanford defender Kiki Pickett. Alex Loera chipped the ball forward from the midfield, Doyle collected the ball out of the air, remaining composed as Pickett took Doyle down from behind. Pickett was whistled for the foul. Santa Clara bagged the tying goal in the 67th minute. Alex Loera took the attempt that was saved by Alison Jahansouz but the rebound went into the middle of the box, and Machaela George finished it to make it 1-1. Stanford and Santa Clara went to double overtime. In the second overtime, in front of the net Stanford nearly netted the golden goal but a Lowder saved the final attempt.

Julie Doyle scores her first goal of the season and her first goal back after her ACL injury. The second goal of the night came in the 39th minute. Machaela George sent a ball from the right sideline to just outside the six-yard box on the opposite side of the field. Doyle made a forward leap to get to the ball and headed it in for the 2-0 Bronco advantage. Santa Clara took care of business Thursday night with a commanding 3-0 win over TCU at home. After a formation change 20 minutes in, the Broncos (7-1) took control of the match, outshooting the Horned Frogs (6-1-1) 17-8 while putting 10 shots on goal and collecting three assists as a team.
SANTA CLARA, CA - SEP 7, 2018
The Broncos welcome back Julie Doyle for her first game since her season-ending ACL injury from October 27th, 2017 against San Francisco. With over 10 Months of rehabilitation behind her, Doyle subbed in at the 36-minute mark, making her 2018 season debut. In the 39th minute, DB Pridham finds Julie Doyle wide on the right near the 18. Doyle takes on her defender 1v1 executing a "fat-cow dribble" around the right side of UNC Alex Kimball. Doyle picks up her dribble on the left side of her defender and plays the cross back to DB Pridham. Pridham just misses the header at the top of the six. Julie Doyle receives 20 minutes of playing time against North Carolina. Broncos defeats UNC 1-0 on Halvorsen goal.
SANTA CLARA, CA - OCT 26, 2017
Santa Clara freshman Julie Doyle tore her left anterior cruciate ligament. She will undergo surgery on Tuesday, November 7th. Doyle suffered the knee injury when turning for a ball in the match against San Francisco. The Broncos freshman with eight goals and three assists on the season is ready to get the surgery behind her and start the recovery process. Doyle out for the remainder of the season is expected to return to the Broncos in 2018. Doyle ended the season with eight goals, third on the team, and three assists despite missing the final five and a half games. If not for her season being cut short, the Broncos had a chance to have the top two freshmen in the league with both scoring double-figure goals. Santa Clara has gotten 35 of its 42 goals this season from underclassmen and 21 from freshmen.
LOS ANGELES, CA - AUG 24, 2017
Santa Clara women's soccer fell on the road to No. 7 UCLA 4-2 Thursday night. Santa Clara (1-2) jumped out to an early lead but the UCLA (3-0) offense that had scored five goals in each of its first two games came storming back with three unanswered goals. In the ninth minute, Maria Sanchez sent a beautiful cross into the six-yard box that Julie Doyle headed right through the legs of the UCLA keeper and into the back of the net to put the Broncos up 1-0 The Bruins came right back, After another goal from Mace in the 25th, Kelsey Turnbow scored her first career goal in the 37th minute and sent a shot over the keeper and off the crossbar to make it 3-2. With just 30 seconds to go in the first half, Mace completed the hat trick to stretch the Bronco deficit back to 4-2.

Kicking-off the 2017 season, Santa Clara women's soccer clawed out a 2-1 victory over San Jose State on Friday night at Stevens Stadium. With the score tied, Julie Doyle scored her first career goal in the 88th minute to put Santa Clara (1-0) on top 2-1. Doyle got the ball near the top of the box and turned to fire a rocket into the back of the net for the match-winner. In the first half when the Broncos attempted 10 shots and put eight on goal. Ana Calero made 10 saves in net for the Spartans to keep the match tight. Santa Clara came out of halftime flat and in the 51st minute San Jose State (0-1) tied the score at 1-all. Maddy Gonzalez got the scoring going with the first goal of the year in the 25th minute. A through ball found Maria Sanchez who one-touched a pass to Gonzalez finish with a shot to the far post.
With a returning core that got as high as No. 4 in the country a year ago 2018, Santa Clara women's soccer got a head start on the 2019 season with a foreign trip to France from June 26 through July 5. The Broncos played three exhibition matches over the 10 day trip in addition to extra training sessions. The team watched three Women's World Cup games, including the two semifinals in Lyon. Santa Clara also did some sightseeing with stops at the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysees, Switzerland, and the Medieval village of Perouges.
